Natasha Hulse
This collaboration of handcrafted lampshades was inspired by a 19th century Russian paisley textile, and the back of an Uzbek Aina Khalta. Natasha used the motifs found within these prints as inspiration to create a three-dimensional interpretation of them, as well as putting her own take on the design.
Red, blue and green, the earthy colours predominantly found in Russian textiles and icons, have been used on a base fabric from Volga Linen, in either plain red or a slate grey historic wood cut print.
Petal by petal, the pieces are assembled into a whole flower motif that flows around the lampshade. Finally, they are sewn on to the linen base and applied to the lampshade.
All work is carried out in the U.K and takes four to five weeks to make.
