Antique Pine Dresser With Carved Frieze & Original Paint
A magnificent and statuesque Co. Galway dresser, with classic finely carved fretwork frieze containing Celtic motifs and a symbolic 4-leaved clover at the centre point, and all in the original red paint. A rare find. Tucked away by a dealer with a mind for heritage some 40 yrs ago, now on show for the first time since it was removed from the house it was made for in the early to mid-19th century. This county and region was famous for it’s dressers, Georgian English in proportion but with witty native vernacular detailing, and this is a very good well-constructed example no doubt the handiwork of one of the leading country furniture making families.
