Antique Wedding Box With Tulips
A rare antique pine marriage, a cute size, made of fragrant cedar pine, from the mountains, with hand-painted design of flowers in natural mineral paints. The wild flowers of the Eastern Mediterranean in the Spring that are so gloriously colourful & abundant provided inspiration for the dowry makers in this part of Europe, & elsewhere, in fact it was the Ottomans who gave Western Europe the ‘tulip’ later cultivated & adored, in turn the folk painters of Hungary embellished their furniture with tulips and antique marriage boxes from Hungary are often called ‘tulipanos lada’ or tulip boxes, but this one is not from Central Europe, but from much further south and east where the tradition started.
