Interior portraiture is certainly not a new phenomenon. In its earliest form it served to document the contents of a room, for example a library or a collection of art. It then became the fashion in England and Europe to commission interior portraits to showcase one’s own homes, a status symbol if you like. This collection of work by SJ Axelby, in watercolour and mixed media, celebrates Alexandra’s style at home in London and in her country cottage. These work well individually or in sets of four or eight.
