Rare Folk Painted Neo-Classical Marriage Cupboard

A two door marriage cupboard, dating from 1800-20, and in wonderful original condition, in the lower panels of the doors classical urns and flowers much as you might expect and then quite unusually folk art paintings of saints, Sebastian and Florian, in the upper panels. Both were Roman soldiers and Christian martyrs, which carries on the theme of classical antiquity, which was very fashionable at the time the cupboard was made. A nice rapprochement of Christian marriage custom & appreciation of the Classicism. Inside are two shelves. There is the original lock and key. Superb condition.
