Superb Folk Painted Marriage Cupboard
In the top drawer of Central European marriage cupboards in terms of their build quality and painting are these, from the Giant Mountains otherwise known as the Krkonose or Riesengebirge region, on the borders of Poland, Czech & Germany, in the old Sudetenland. The blue background is characteristic of this style of folk painting, it is said to derive from the patterns that poplar leaves makes when seen through shimmering sunlight, the panels on these cupboards and boxes are always a delight, the master painters were inspired by the wild flora around them. Interior has original pegs and could be shelved out.
