Superb Marriage Bench With Birds & Gold Spindles

A superb folk painted marriage bench with golden spindles, birds and flowers in the traditional style of the Kaloteszeg, the seat has two lifting lids. This piece would have been made and painted for a marriage amongst the Calvinist Hungarian tribes of Central Transylvania, an area famed since ethnographers discovered it in the late 19th century.
This piece is in excellent clean state of preservation.
